Message Both carbohydrates and fat are energy sources. There are simple carbs and complex carbs. Fat contains the most calories out of all of them.

But here's where things get confusing. Your body absorbs simple carbs (like sugar) the easiest, complex carbs are harder to break down and fat is the hardest. Any energy that you absorb and don't use gets turned into fat. Although fat has the most energy, it's hard to break down and if your body doesn't need it most of it will pass through you, you'll crap it out. Sugar on the other hand gets absorbed so fast that you cannot burn it off that fast and it instantly starts getting stored.
